WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative John Garamendi (D-CA08) issued the following statement on the recent announcement of U.S. Steel’s acquisition by Nippon Steel:

WASHINGTON, DC— Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA08), the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, voted to pass the "National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024”. The annual legislation provides the legal authority for all aspects of the United States military, including all personnel, installations, and equipment used in our national defense.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Roger Wicker, R-Miss., ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Bob Casey, D-Penn., introduced the Energizing American Shipbuilding Act. This legislation would increase the United States’ exports of liquified natural gas (LNG) and crude oil on American built, flagged, and crewed vessels, and, subsequently, it would expand our domestic shipbuilding industrial base.

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, U.S. Representative John Garamendi (D-CA-08) introduced the “Impact Aid Infrastructure Partnership Act.” This bill would provide a total of $1 billion over four years for Impact Aid Construction Grants to address the significant backlog of facility needs at federally impacted school districts. WASHINGTON, DC— On Thursday, Representatives John Garamendi (D-CA) and Mike Waltz (R-FL), Ranking Member and Chair of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, sent a joint letter to U.S. Comptroller General Gene L. Dodaro, head of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), urging the GAO to conduct a review on the cause of the accidents that have resulted in several deaths involving the Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft (V-22) during military operations and training exercises.

WASHINGTON, DC— Today, Representative John Garamendi (D-CA-08) welcomed the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration’s announcement that the Mare Island Naval Cemetery was transferred to federal management on November 27^th. For years, the City of Vallejo was unable to cover the increasing maintenance costs, leading the cemetery to fall into disrepair.
