Joining the Peace Corps
John Garamendi and his wife, Patti heard the call of President John F. Kennedy when he established the Peace Corps and decided to begin their marriage serving together as Peace Corps volunteers in Ethiopia. Both Congressman Garamendi and Patti credit their long careers in public service to the hard work and rewarding service they experienced all those years ago in Ethiopia. Congressman Garamendi stridently believes in the humanitarian mission of the Peace Corps and is a champion for the program. As Peace Corps Volunteers begin to return to their international work after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, recruiting eager and qualified volunteers has once again become an important priority for the Peace Corps. This opportunity is a fantastic step for recent college graduates and experienced professionals alike looking to contribute to a global humanitarian mission.
