Today, Congressman Garamendi took his fight to stop the twin tunnels to the floor of the House, offering an amendment that would have barred any federal support for the project. Congressman McNerney followed suit with his own amendment in the same vein.
In a spirited debate with his colleagues from the San Joaquin Valley and Southern California, Garamendi attacked the argument for the tunnels. “The tunnels are a deadly threat to the Delta and a wasteful boondoggle costing more than $15 billion while not creating one gallon of new water,” said Garamendi.
Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, Davis, Yuba City), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, voted to pass the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2017 out of Committee and move it to the House Floor. This annual bill sets policy for the Department of Defense and provides the authority and direction for the United States military. The House Armed Services Committee adopted the bill by a 60-2 vote.
