WASHINGTON, DC-Today, Congressman Garamendi thanked the Department of Labor for providing $4 million of additional recovery assistance to continue cleanup and recovery efforts in the wake of the 2015 fires that affected Northern California.
“This is an outrageous attempt by the Secretary of the Interior to direct a scientific outcome. It’s unconscionable. I would have expected this from the Trump Administration, not the Obama Administration. The $15 billion twin tunnels are a financially and environmentally disastrous boondoggle that will suck the Delta dry, ravage its ecosystem, and destroy local fisheries, agriculture, and recreation. I strongly disagree with the Obama Administration’s decision to give this disaster of a project an expedited environmental review in the hopes of advancing construction timelines.
“It is simply wrong that the first action taken by the new Congress is literally to gut the independent ethics office that holds your Representatives accountable. The new rules proposed by Republican leadership would put the independent ethics office under the jurisdiction of the very members it is tasked with investigating. It would prevent the office from receiving anonymous tips, which will discourage whistleblowing. And it would harm transparency by barring the office from disclosing the results of their investigations to the public.”
