WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressmen John Garamendi (D-CA) and Dusty Johnson (R-SD) introduced the "Ocean Shipping Reform Act of 2021." This bipartisan legislation is the first major update of federal regulations for the global ocean shipping industry since 1998. The legislation would support American exports by establishing reciprocal trade opportunities to help reduce the United States' longstanding trade imbalance with China and other countries.

WASHINGTON, DC­—Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA03), a former Deputy Secretary of the Interior during the Clinton Administration, released a discussion draft of the "Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument Expansion Act" for public review and comment. This draft legislation would expand the National Monument to include a federally owned land parcel known as the "Walker Ridge" tract. This ridgeline in Lake County has cultural significance to Native Americans and is home to bald eagles and rare wildflowers.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA—Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) applauded Robyn Stevens of Vacaville, who will represent his Congressional District and the nation at the 2021 Summer Olympic Games. Robyn will compete for Team USA in 20-kilometer race walk competition in the Olympics.

Last week, Garamendi met with Robyn Stevens and her family in Davis to present her with a Congressional Commendation.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representatives John Garamendi (CA-03), Don Beyer (VA-08), and Senators Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) and Jeffrey A. Merkley (D-Ore.), co-chairs of the Nuclear Weapons and Arms Control Working Group, led 17 of their colleagues in calling on President Joseph R. Biden to actively guide the formation of the Department of Defense-led Nuclear Posture Review. The Nuclear Posture Review (NPR) will be part of an integrated National Defense Strategy that the Department of Defense says will be completed by early next year.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) voted to protect Californian families from exposure to dangerous PFAS chemicals with H.R. 535, the "PFAS Action Act." This legislation will clean up these "forever chemicals," which pose a direct threat to public health, and introduce stronger protections against future pollution. The bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a bipartisan vote of 241 to 183 and now heads to the U.S. Senate for consideration.

This legislation restores the authority of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to take lawbreakers to court and recover stolen funds for victims of scam, fraud and other illegal activities.

WASHINGTON, DC-Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) introduced the "Fair COLA for Seniors Act of 2021" (H.R.4315). This bill would require Social Security to use the Consumer Price Index for the Elderly (CPI-E) to calculate a fairer cost of living adjustment (COLA) for seniors. The bill would increase benefits and ensure that cost of living adjustments in Social Security reflect the real rising costs for seniors and disabled Americans.
