WASHINGTON – On Monday, Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI), House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith (D-WA), and Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) sent a letter to Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan requesting he revise a report on climate change and its impacts on national security. The report, presented to Congress on January 10, failed to meet the basic requirements laid out in statute.

The Congressmen's bipartisan Flood Insurance for Farmers Act of 2019 (H.R.830) would also lift the de facto federal prohibition on construction and repair of agricultural structures in high flood-risk areas designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The Readiness Subcommittee oversees defense programs that enable the military services to be prepared to fight. Military units that have sufficient equipment, trained personnel, and supplies are considered "ready."

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Davis, Fairfield, Yuba City), who represents Travis Air Force base and Beale Air Force base in Congress, introduced the Tricare Reserve Improvement Act, which extends eligibility to all National Guardsmen and Reservists, regardless of their civilian occupation. Garamendi co-authored the legislation with Congressman Trent Kelly (R-MS), and identical legislation was introduced in the Senate by Senators Steve Daines (R-MT) and Joe Manchin (D-WV).
