Rep. Garamendi Hosts Senior Armed Services Committee Members During Productive Work Day in Yuba-Sutter Region
Yuba County, CA—Today Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA), Chairman of the Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, hosted a Congressional Delegation comprised of other key members of the House Armed Services Committee to tour Beale Air Force Base in Yuba County. Garamendi then met with the Yuba-Sutter Habitat for Humanity to discuss their ongoing projects and how he can support their work through his efforts in Congress.
At Beale Air Force Base, Rep. Garamendi and Colonel Andrew Clark—the Beale Air Force Base Commander—provided Reps. Hartzler and Norcross a tour of the U-2 Aircraft and RQ-4 Squadron and discussed classified projects.
"As Chairman of the Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness who represents Beale Air Force Base in Congress, I was pleased to welcome key colleagues on the House Armed Services Committee to Beale today. I showed the critical reconnaissance work and other vital missions that are performed at Beale to Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ) and Congresswoman Vikki Hartzler (R-MO)—the Chair and Ranking Member of the Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces. Their subcommittee oversees Air Force programs related to reconnaissance and surveillance, and it was an invaluable experience to see the work that's done at Beale firsthand so we can work together to support Beale AFB's missions as leaders on the House Armed Services Committee. I thank Congressman Norcross and Congresswoman Hartzler for lending their time to our community today and for their partnership in Congress," Garamendi said.
"I also met with Yuba-Sutter Habitat for Humanity in Marysville to discuss their crucial efforts to support victims of the Camp Fire and resolve local homelessness issues. I discussed the issue of veteran homelessness, and the recent success I had working with Solano Habitat for Humanity to develop a housing complex to help address veteran homelessness in the Solano Community. Ending the veteran homelessness crisis is one of my priorities in Congress, and I am committed to supporting Yuba-Sutter Habitat for Humanity's work to address this critical issue," Garamendi said.
"We also discussed Habit for Humanity's extensive work to secure resources and build homes for Camp Fire victims that are trying to make the Yuba-Sutter region their new home. In Congress, I helped secure resources to support Camp Fire victims as they recover, and I will work with Habitat for Humanity closely to ensure every wildfire victim has the resources they need to get back on their feet," Garamendi concluded.
