Democrats will not be deterred. The stakes are too high for the American people. In addition to bringing job-creating legislation to the House floor and championing the President’s American Jobs Act, House Democrats have put forward our own bold plan for job creation: Make It In America. This comprehensive plan would create jobs now through policies to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, improve our education, and strengthen our manufacturing base.

"Competition for solar energy jobs is heating up, and the winners and losers of the 21st Century Global Clean Energy Race are being determined in the here and now," Congressman Garamendi said. "We can either wave the white flag of surrender – which seems to be the Congressional Republican energy plan – or we can sustain and create good American jobs in the $5 trillion global energy industry."

"Congress will have some tough choices to make in the weeks ahead, and clearly Defense spending is on the table. This matrix of possible Defense Department savings is compiled from proposals made by Think Tanks ranging from the far right to the center and the far left. It can help us find responsible defense savings to reduce the deficit while ensuring America's national security," Congressman Garamendi said.

"This $1.5 million grant offers our region an opportunity to improve transit access with seniors and disabled residents while improving air quality and creating good jobs," said Congressman John Garamendi. "I applaud the city of Fairfield’s efforts to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and California Air Resource Board qualifications. I know that this is just one of many steps the city has taken toward creating a more livable community."

"Washington should fight for American jobs – not give them away with unfair trade deals."

"The Senate put partisanship aside – at least for one vote – to pass commonsense legislation that helps American manufacturers and producers compete. Countries that hope to create jobs don't turn a blind eye when their greatest job creators are denied fair competition on the international market. We need this bill to Make It In America again."

"Today's jobs report offers a veneer of positive news that while encouraging cannot obscure the crisis at hand: Americans need jobs and they need them now. By adding well over a million jobs to the economy, the American Jobs Act is our best shot at preventing another painful recession. We should pass this jobs bill right now."

"Every great jobs-creating technological advancement in American history – cars, space travel, and the Internet included – were rebuffed by naysayers that preferred to raise the white flag of surrender before even trying," Congressman Garamendi said. "The solar industry was born in America and is responsible for 100,000 American jobs. With commonsense policies like Make It In America buying preferences, we can do much to once again become the world’s leader in solar production."

"When we purchase buses, trains, and other transportation equipment with taxpayer money, those investments can be used to help create jobs for our fellow Americans," said Congressman Garamendi. "My Make It In America transportation legislation, H.R. 613, would require more American content in transportation purchases using federal money. Until my legislation becomes law, A.B. 1097 is a great model I hope other states embrace. Public transit agencies should have enough flexibility to give preference to American manufacturers and employers. It just makes sense."

"Americans need jobs. This is my first priority in Congress, and I was encouraged by President Obama's speech in which he laid out a robust plan to put Americans back to work."
