"In my view, there is a readily available solution to afford ongoing clean energy tax credits. We can generate $5 billion a year by ending our wasteful subsidies of the oil industry. That subsidy should be moved to renewable energy," said Congressman Garamendi.

"HR 1837 turns upside down 150 years of California water law and the
allocation of water. The bill removes all environmental protections for the Delta and Central Valley rivers while allowing destructive exports of water from the Delta to San Joaquin Valley water districts. However, one section of the bill, Title 4, has merit in that it affirms existing water rights and area of origin rights in Northern California. Unfortunately, this section was combined with too much bad policy for the bill to receive my support."

"Many farmers in my Delta community have personally asked me to help fix this problem," said Congressman John Garamendi. "I am proud to take their voice to Washington, so American farmers have the freedom to grow their businesses and grow the products this country needs."

The bill is necessary because as of December 2011, the unemployment rate among veterans 18-24 years of age was 31 percent – double that of the nonveteran unemployment rate.

"Students have enough things to stress about. I want UC Davis students to focus on getting good grades and landing a good job after college," Garamendi said. "Because of this event, today some students can set aside worries about how they're going to pay for their education."

Even in a Congress marked by intense partisanship there is inter-party cooperation. Following Veterans Day, legislators came together to pass the VOW to Hire Heroes Act. This bill, now law, provides businesses with a tax credit to hire our veterans, who have sacrificed greatly on behalf of our country.

"The abuses and fraud need to be fully investigated, and I commend Attorney General Harris for taking appropriate leadership in helping homeowners," Garamendi said. "I hope the President uses the power of his Administration to aid Harris. We need to make sure that these rip off artists are exposed for their crimes, and to whatever degree we can help working families keep their homes, we should."
