Congressman Garamendi joins Altec and PG&E employees at the opening at a new Dixon factory producing a "green fleet" of bucket trucks

DIXON, CA – Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, CA) today joined officials from Altec and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) in welcoming the launch of a new green manufacturing facility in Dixon. The plant was built due to PG&E's purchase agreement with Altec for nearly 300 "green fleet" bucket trucks, creating 150 jobs.
The "green fleet" vehicles manufactured by Altec for PG&E utilize a series of batteries and a high-output alternator to eliminate the need for engine idling for crews to operate the bucket and onboard equipment. This technology results in reduced noise for the communities where PG&E works and lets crews communicate more easily and safely. The onboard electric battery power also results in significantly reduced emissions, reduced vehicle operating costs and extended vehicle life. These vehicles saved over $700,000 in fuel for PG&E last year alone.
"This is a good day," said Congressman John Garamendi. "At a time when we need jobs, clean technology, and advanced manufacturing, this Dixon plant delivers all three. Because of this facility, more than a hundred families in our region will have the economic opportunity that comes with a good reliable job."
Garamendi added, "My office will continue to serve as a partner with local businesses, so that they have every opportunity to expand, create jobs, and Make It In America."
Congressman Garamendi is the author of Make It In America legislation that would ensure federal tax payer dollars for transportation and clean energy projects go toward manufacturing American equipment and employing American workers.
