WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative John Garamendi (D-CA08) issued the following statement on the recent announcement of U.S. Steel’s acquisition by Nippon Steel:
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Roger Wicker, R-Miss., ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Bob Casey, D-Penn., introduced the Energizing American Shipbuilding Act. This legislation would increase the United States’ exports of liquified natural gas (LNG) and crude oil on American built, flagged, and crewed vessels, and, subsequently, it would expand our domestic shipbuilding industrial base.
U.S. Congressmen John Garamendi, D-Calif., and Rob Wittman, R-Va., introduced companion legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives.
WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Representatives John Garamendi (D-CA-08) and Mark Pocan (D-WI-02), co-chair of the Congressional Labor Caucus, led 19 other Democratic members in calling on U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo to appoint a labor union representative to the National Advisory Board for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership Program.

Specifically, the members are calling on United States Steel to find a buyer that will keep the Pittsburg mill in operation and keep all workers on the job.
