While Garamendi fought to create American jobs and boost economic growth, the Appropriations bill itself would take this nation in the opposite direction. The legislation fails to address the need to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure and to recover from our nation’s housing crisis. For that reason, Garamendi voted against it.

"No one should be priced out of an education. Student loan debt is out of control in America. It's preventing students with loans from taking the entrepreneurial risks that jumpstart economies, stopping students from taking public service jobs, and causing many students to think twice before enrolling in the college education that could forever improve life for them and their families."

“For far too long, the ‘Cordelia Junction’ did not function for commuters, but today, we are beginning to break through the traffic jam. This project will accelerate commerce, improve safety, and create jobs throughout Northern California. I want to thank the Solano Transportation Authority, other transportation agencies, and the private construction businesses for their partnership in moving this project forward.”

"With these federal funds, the Marysville Fire Department will purchase a water tender that will strengthen their ability to protect residents of the area from harm. I commend the Department for their initiative and skill in applying for this federal grant. I also thank our firefighters for their bravery in risking their lives to protect the life and limb of strangers,” said Garamendi.

Garamendi led a letter to the Agriculture Secretary urging him to designate the Bay-Delta watershed as a critical conservation area. This will make private companies, agriculture groups, universities, non-profit organizations, local and tribal governments and others eligible for conservation funding.

“I want to congratulate these AP Government students, their teacher, and Rio Vista High School for their hard work and inspiring program,” said Congressman Garamendi.

“The Airmen at Beale and Travis Air Force Bases depend on Congress to pass good legislation that ensures they can effectively and safely carry out their missions. The NDAA also improves Congressional services for veterans, helps veterans who are seeking employment, and supports veterans who are struggling with mental illness. This legislation is far from perfect, but it’s a strong foundation,” said Congressman Garamendi.

The bill authorizes $760 million for the American River Watershed Project in the Natomas Basin, helping prevent flooding in Sacramento and Sutter Counties. It also authorizes $255 million in flood control for the Sutter Basin. Congressman Garamendi has worked closely with his Republican colleague to the north, Congressman Doug LaMalfa to ensure federal funding for levees in this region.
