The transportation grants will provide for important upgrades for Yuba and Sutter airport facilities, making them safer, more convenient, and more efficient. The economic development grants will help the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation will help the agency develop a comprehensive strategy to bring private capital and jobs to the region. They will also help Glenn, Butte, and Tehama counties bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap that will diversify and strengthen the regional economy.

“This future command relationship between Beale’s 9th Reconnaissance Wing and Air Combat Command’s 25th Air Force will better align our nation’s critical ISR command and infrastructure to be effective supporting our brave servicemembers in dangerous situations overseas,” Armed Services Committee Member Garamendi said. “I’m proud to represent a community with such an important mission and will continue doing everything I can to make sure that Beale Air Force Base’s vital mission is well supported.”

The Congressmen asked the Coast Guard to reactivate the Polar Sea icebreaker in a letter to Commandant Paul Zukunft. The U.S. currently does not have the icebreakers it needs to meet its responsibilities in the Arctic. Putting the Polar Sea back into service would better enable the U.S. to secure its national security, environmental and economic interests in the region.

While Garamendi fought to create American jobs and boost economic growth, the Appropriations bill itself would take this nation in the opposite direction. The legislation fails to address the need to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure and to recover from our nation’s housing crisis. For that reason, Garamendi voted against it.
