Fairfield, CA—Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA), delivered the keynote address at the Alzheimer's Disease Education and Empowerment-Early Detection Matters event in Solano County to discuss advancements in Alzheimer's research.
WASHINGTON, DC-Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) introduced H.R. 1553, the Fair COLA for Seniors Act of 2019. This bill would require Social Security to use the Consumer Price Index for the Elderly (CPI-E) to calculate a fairer cost of living adjustment (COLA)for seniors. The bill would increase benefits and ensure that cost of living adjustments in Social Security reflect the real rising costs for seniors and disabled Americans. From 1982 to 2011, CPI-E rose at an annual average rate of 3.1 percent, compared with 2.9 percent for the methods that are currently used.
Congressman Garamendi is hosting a series of senior conversations and town halls throughout the 3rd District to focus on issues impacting the senior community and other local interests. On May 19th, Congressman Garamendi will be at the Pioneer High School Theater on 1400 Pioneer Avenue Woodland from 1:00-2:30 pm to hear from his constituents and deliver an update on the state of affairs in Washington.
