Northern California Representatives' Statement on Senator Feinstein Pulling Deeply-Flawed Water Bill

"We are pleased Senator Feinstein will not be pursuing passage of the water legislation secretly negotiated by her and House Republicans. This legislation would have eviscerated environmental laws protecting fisheries, California watersheds, local water supplies, and tribal and local economies in order to benefit a few powerful Delta water exporters."

The bill aims to curb the raiding of non-fire accounts to pay for wildfire suppression when costs exceed an agency's budget. As such, the plan would allow more money to be spent on hazardous fuels reduction and other prevention efforts designed to reduce the number of huge wildfires that have plagued the western U.S. in recent years.

Chief Evalle retired from the Air Force last month after serving our nation for 30 years. Evalle’s career culminated as the Command Chief Master Sergeant of the 60th Air Mobility Wing at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield. He will continue his decades of public service helping 3rd District veterans and military families with casework, and he will be an important and trusted advisor on military affairs legislation as well.

If there is any hope of a future with fewer wildfires, the current broken system must be fixed so that state and federal agencies have adequate resources to properly manage forests and mitigate the risk of fires.
