“This legislation is very important for the military communities in my district. I am glad we were able to develop a bipartisan bill to provide for a smart and strong defense,” said Congressman Garamendi. “While every bill can be improved, this legislation is a good step forward.”

Garamendi praised UC Davis for expanding support for first-generation, low-income students as they embark on their college career. He also commended six outstanding Yolo County students and academics who have been awarded Fulbright Program scholarships to study abroad.

"The era of austerity and sequestration is directly imperiling our national security. The KC-10 Tankers are a vital national security asset, helping with aerial refueling and logistical support," Garamendi said.

University of California at Davis will lead the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Genomics to Improve poultry. They are one of ten research centers selected to develop a method for producing more food in an environmentally sensitive manner.
