Nearly a million Californians will vote by mail this election and they must not be disenfranchised because of post office delays. For this reason, I am glad the Post Office will suspend closures and prevent a disruption to our democracy.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this heart wrenching attack and their grieving family members. The attack in Wisconsin against the Sikh community was terrorism on American soil, and I strongly condemn it."

"This bill gives more teeth to USERRA and SCRA, which ultimately provides veterans with additional essential protections they so justly deserve, and have earned, often on the battlefield," said the American Legion's National Commander Fang A. Wong.

"Instead of asking more from middle class families, who are struggling to make ends meet, we need everyone to pay their fair share," said Congressman Garamendi. "I call on my colleagues to join us to create a level playing field, where everyone who plays by the rules can live out their dreams."

"As a father to five daughters, I want every woman in America to have access to the best, most affordable health coverage possible. For too long, women have borne the brunt of health care costs in America," Congressman Garamendi said. "The Affordable Care Act is putting women and their doctors back in charge of their healthcare and reducing the ways insurance companies can gouge their customers."

"I was proud to vote for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, because as California’s first elected Insurance Commissioner, I know all too well that without a referee leveling the playing field, the insurance industry will always put its profits ahead of the people it is supposed to serve. We have a moral obligation to help people. Commonsense reforms in the Affordable Care Act, including those found in the Patient’s Bill of Rights, not only improve care for millions of Americans, but they also reduce costs in the overall health system, helping us responsibly reduce the deficit."

"I should be saying today that the House of Representatives voted for a good bipartisan jobs bill to get Americans back to work … but I can’t. The Republican leadership in Congress would rather waste time on meaningless theater than do something about jobs," Congressman Garamendi said. "Yet again, they scheduled a vote to allow 17 million children with pre-existing conditions to once again be denied coverage and to raise prescription drug costs for more than five million seniors."

"We all deserve the freedom from want and the freedom from fear. While I hope to eventually see Medicare for All in America, the Affordable Care Act is a vast improvement over the dark days when we allowed the insurance companies to run roughshod over our health."
