If the Midwest is America’s breadbasket, California is America’s garden basket, home to the world’s largest variety of rice, fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

Ending preventable flight delays is good, but Congress also needs to prevent the draconian cuts to our nation’s defense, research, Head Start, and children’s health care that are already causing alarm among families in my district.

At times like these, I’m aware of no words in our language that adequately express our despair in the face of the carnage or our gratitude to all the heroes who stepped up to help people in need.

This budget provides a balanced path that strengthens our economy while responsibly reducing the deficit. There is much to admire in this plan, but I have deep reservations about the proposed change in Social Security policy.

“Pay discrimination is unjust. It tears at our families and our communities. Nationwide, women earn only 77 cents for every dollar earned by men, despite the fact that the Equal Pay Act will mark its 50th anniversary in June."

He reiterated his belief that cuts in benefits in Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid/MediCal are counterproductive and can be avoided by finding specific savings in the programs that are wasteful and duplicative
