“I want to congratulate these AP Government students, their teacher, and Rio Vista High School for their hard work and inspiring program,” said Congressman Garamendi.

“It is an honor to be selected as co-chair of the bipartisan American Sikh Caucus. I am proud to take this next step in my work with Sikh-Americans to defend civil rights, fight discrimination, and educate Members of Congress and the public about the community."

He praised Davis Aggies for their innovation and entrepreneurship, pledging to continue as a champion for the school and the region’s businesses.

"It is with a heavy heart that I join my constituents in the spirit of condolence and support for the families of those who lost their lives on I-5 yesterday evening."

Celebration of Vaisakhi, a Spring Festival, includes performing “Seva” (selfless service), such as providing free food to others and volunteering for community service projects. The Sikh American community also honors the occasion with major parades throughout the United States. Congressman Garamendi said, "I proudly represent one of the largest Sikh communities in the nation. For decades, we have confronted the challenges of California together, including education and our current drought. It is in this spirit of cooperation and friendship that I wish Sikhs across America and across the world a most joyous Vaisakhi."

“If enacted into law, this extreme Tea Party-inspired budget would wreck havoc on my district and communities across America,” said Congressman Garamendi. “Construction on levees in flood prone Sacramento Valley communities would be delayed. College students would shoulder even more debt. Agricultural researchers at UC Davis would see their groundbreaking work halted. Seniors in Rio Vista would see their health costs skyrocket. Struggling families in my district would see food, housing, and health care taken away from them.”

“I am a proud supporter of the Paycheck Fairness Act and the Fair Minimum Wage Act, which would dramatically shrink the wage gap and deserve a vote. This is a matter of basic economic freedom and fairness.”

"The Senate finally moved forward with good bipartisan stopgap legislation to restore jobless benefits for those out of work through no fault of their own. The House should immediately do the same. We can’t afford further delay," he said.
