Washington, DC—Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA), Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee within the House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement after the House Armed Services Committee completed its markup of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2020. The bill passed committee by a bipartisan vote of 33-24, and Garamendi voted for the bill. The legislation will now move to the House Floor to be voted on by the entire House of Representatives.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressmen John Garamendi (D-CA) announced that his bipartisan Flood Insurance for Farmers Act of 2019 (H.R.830) was passed by the House Financial Services Committee, unanimously as part of a larger bill (H.R.3167) reauthorizing the National Flood Insurance Program through the end of fiscal year 2024.

Washington, DC—Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) sent a letter to the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) objecting to the termination of the Long-Term Foster Program at Baptist Church Family Services (BCFS) in Fairfield, CA that would disrupt the lives of the facility's foster children as they seek asylum in the United States. The termination of the contract would force the foster children in BCFS's care to relocate and establish relationships with new families and attorneys, which would significantly prolong their cases.
