Yesterday, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, CA) met with three of his advisory committees that help him identify the needs of the 3rd District. He also held an open house at his Davis District Office for community members who wished to speak with the Congressman and his staff about a federal issue or to learn about services available to help them.

No representative of the Bay Delta region was given the opportunity to participate in the development of this legislation. Therefore, it is a safe bet that this lengthy and complex legislation will have negative effects on the Delta. As I have said many times, I am more than willing to work with anyone who wants to achieve a true bipartisan solution to California and Western water problems.

The bill includes $8.7 billion to maintain America’s nuclear weapons stockpile, $526 million more than FY 2015. Garamendi fears this increase in spending to support our already bloated nuclear weapons program, particularly in the context of delicate diplomacy with Iran and Russia, could trigger a chain reaction that would accelerate a modern nuclear arms race.
