Ending Gun Violence

Sacramento, CA—Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA), who represents the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta in Congress, sent a letter to Director Karla Nemeth of the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) objecting to the agency's lack of consideration of the "western route" for the new Delta Conveyance Project. To date, DWR has failed to examine a possible western route for the project, even though the western route could more effectively preserve the ecology of the Delta.

Washington, DC—Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) voted for two bipartisan appropriations bills to fund the federal government through the 2020 fiscal year. The $1.4 trillion spending deal funds nearly aspect of the federal government and includes $25 million in long-sought funding for critical research into gun violence at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health. The legislation is expected to be signed into law later this week.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) voted in favor of the bipartisan Farm Workforce Modernization Act (H.R. 5038) which passed the House by a vote of 260-165. The bipartisan legislation was introduced by Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), and Garamendi is a cosponsor.

The Farm Workforce Modernization Act, which was negotiated over several months with input from agricultural stakeholders and labor organizations, makes meaningful reforms to the H-2A agricultural guestworker program and creates a first-of-its-kind, merit-based visa program specifically designed for the nation's agricultural sector.
