Safe Climate Caucus Members Call for Action on Climate Change

March 11, 2014
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC Last week, members of the Safe Climate Caucus spoke out about the positive ways their communities have been responding to climate change and called on action from Congress.

In a video blog post, Congressman Henry A. Waxman, chair of the Safe Climate Caucus, criticized Republicans for continuing their reckless anti-environment record in the House of Representatives.  Last week, Republicans took action to further weaken the EPA’s ability to limit harmful carbon pollution and voted down an amendment that acknowledged that greenhouse gas pollution is contributing to climate change.

Congressman John Garamendi spoke of the importance of investing in renewable energy technologies to help reduce the impacts of climate change.  Congressman Garamendi applauded the President’s budget for supporting programs like the renewable energy tax credit and called for Congress to develop an energy plan that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Congresswoman Doris Matsui wrote about the transformative impact smart growth policies have had in her home district in Sacramento, California to limit their carbon footprint. She highlighted efforts to improve public transportation.  Rep. Matsui’s full op-ed is available on the Huffington Post blog.
