Congressman Garamendi on Radical House Republican 'Budget': "Every American is Harmed by this Destructive and Foolish Plan"

Garamendi Introduces Make It In America Bill to Create
Jobs in Same Week that Republicans Introduce Bill to Eliminate Jobs

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman John Garamendi (D-Walnut Creek, CA) today voiced his opposition to a radical House Republican plan that threatens national security and eliminates millions of American jobs.

In the same week that House Republicans plan on introducing the reckless Republican continuing resolution, Rep. Garamendi introduced Make It In America legislation to create thousands of good American jobs. Congressman Garamendi’s bill requires that all transportation equipment and parts purchased with your federal tax dollars must be made in America.

"Doctors have a creed: 'First, do no harm.' Unfortunately, House Republicans are proposing to do harm, making our country more dangerous and giving pink slips to millions of hardworking Americans," said Congressman Garamendi. "Most Americans are good people who don’t want to see their neighbors out of a job and on the street, but that’s what Republicans are pursuing with this continuing resolution."

Garamendi added, "House Republicans want to decimate water cleanup, making your tap water more toxic. They want to drastically cut funding to the FBI and U.S. Marshals, making our streets less safe. They want to cut billions from clean energy production and research, eliminating hundreds of thousands of jobs, making America less competitive, and endangering national security by continuing our dangerous addiction to foreign oil. They want to close national parks and layoff park rangers, possibly making your favorite vacation spot a haven for criminals. Every American is harmed by this destructive and foolish plan."

"Members of Congress have a moral obligation to help the people they serve, and that’s why I am resolutely against the Republican plan to devastate our economy," Garamendi continued. "Today I introduced Make It In America legislation to create good American jobs in the manufacturing of buses, trains, and other transportation parts and equipment at no additional cost to taxpayers. We can Make It In America again and lift millions of our friends and neighbors into the middle class, but only if we’re willing to pursue the policies that actually create jobs and grow our economy."
