Congressman Garamendi Attends Meyer Corporation Warehouse and Distribution Center Groundbreaking
FAIRFIELD, CA – Congressman John Garamendi (D-Walnut Creek, CA) today attended the grand opening of Meyer Corporation’s expanded warehouse and distribution center in Fairfield. The construction and ongoing use of the facility is creating hundreds of jobs in Solano County. The warehouse and distribution center is one of the greenest in the nation, reusing waste asphalt from the repaving of I-80, the first federal stimulus project in California, for construction of the site. Garamendi released the following statement:
"Today we are assembled to celebrate the grand opening of a great green facility employing hundreds of Solano County workers. The Meyer Corporation warehouse and distribution center is a model of green architecture, showcasing the best practices in environmentally friendly business today. It’s a great honor to learn more about this facility. It’s an even greater honor to meet local residents gainfully employed because Meyer chose to call Fairfield home. Thank you Meyer Corporation, Mayor Price, and everyone who made this event possible today.
"Warehousing and distributing goods employs a lot of Americans, but it’s only one piece of the supply chain. In the research and development, manufacturing, installation, and maintenance of products, opportunities abound to create quality jobs. As we celebrate the creation of good jobs here today, let’s remember that America’s future prosperity depends not just on the distribution of goods but also on the creation of them. If we don’t make it in America, we won’t make it in America. Manufacturing matters."
To bring good manufacturing jobs back to America, Congressman John Garamendi has authored three bills that would close corporate tax loopholes that reward the off-shoring of jobs and end taxpayer subsidies for foreign-produced clean energy technology, buses, railcars, and ferries. Garamendi believes that America’s security and prosperity in the 21st century depends on reasserting our leadership in clean energy and public transit production.
