In Wake of Beale Air Force Base Fire, Rep. Garamendi Pledges Support to Rebuild

January 22, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, CA), who represents Yuba and Sutter counties, released the following statement on the structure fire that engulfed the 9th Civil Engineer Squadron building at Beale Air Force Base, which is located near Marysville, California:

“We are all breathing a deep sigh of relief that no one was seriously injured by yesterday’s fire at Beale Air Force Base.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to 9th Reconnaissance Wing and 940th Wing personnel, and the firefighters in Linda, Wheatland, Marysville and the surrounding area for putting out this inferno. In this bravery, we witnessed the communities in Yuba and Sutter counties come together – neighbors helping neighbors in their time of need.

“In this spirit of cooperation, the resilient Beale Air Force Base community will rebuild and recover. As the community’s Representative in Congress, I am here to lend a helping hand. As a Member of the House Armed Services Committee, I will do everything in my power to assist the reconstruction efforts.

“The Airmen at Beale are first class and their intelligence mission is of the utmost importance for America’s national security. I am in communication with Beale’s Commanders on the best steps moving forward to ensure that their engineers have the facilities and tools they need. Throughout my tenure on the Armed Services Committee, I have consistently advocated for Beale and I will continue to do so.”
