Statement by Congressman John Garamendi on being named a Conferee to the National Defense Authorization Act
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, CA) issued the following statement in response to being named a Conferee to the National Defense Authorization Act for 2017:
“I’m pleased to once again serve as a member of the conference committee to the National Defense Authorization Act, which provides the authority and direction for all United States military activities. The conference committee gives senior members of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees the opportunity to debate, amend, and send a final bill to Congress and ultimately the President’s desk. There are crucial issues at stake, both nationally and in the communities I represent. As always, I will fight to ensure that our military is funded in a responsible manner which balances the needs of our nation at home and abroad. I will fight for the men and women at Travis and Beale Air Force Bases to ensure they are well-treated and fairly compensated for their service and sacrifice. And I will fight to put the brakes on a dangerous new nuclear arms race.”
