Garamendi Statement on Loss of American Troops in Afghanistan
August 8, 2011
FAIRFIELD, DC – On Saturday, 30 U.S. servicemen were killed in Afghanistan when insurgents shot down an American helicopter. Following this incident, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, CA), a member of the House Armed Services Committee whose district includes Travis Air Force Base, issued the following statement:
"My thoughts and prayers are with the families of these brave troops. These heroes have lost their lives in service to their country, and for that America will be eternally grateful.
"During these past ten years of war, as in every generation, our men and women in uniform have made great patriotic sacrifices. They have endured long tours of duty away from their loved ones, terrifying battles, the loss of their brothers and sisters in arms, and the agonizing sting of physical and mental scars. As we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, we honor all the service members who fight on our behalf."
