Garamendi Now Accepting Congressional High School Art Competition Submissions

March 25, 2013

DAVIS, CA – The Office of Congressman John Garamendi is now accepting submissions for the annual Congressional Art Competition. The deadline to submit artwork is April 19, 2013 at 5 PM.

All high school students who reside in California’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes all or portions of Colusa, Glenn, Lake, Sacramento, Solano, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba counties, are encouraged to submit their work. To find out if you are a resident of the 3rd District, go to https://www.house.gov/representatives/find/ and to view a map of the District, go to https://garamendi.house.gov/our-district. The Congressional Art Competition winner will be selected by a panel of local artists and boosters of the arts.

“Art education improves cognition and helps our students achieve their creative potential,” said Congressman Garamendi. “I encourage all 3rd District high school students with an interest in art to submit a work. Who knows? The next Picasso or Georgia O'Keeffe may be a Northern California high school student waiting to blossom.”

Since 1982, the Congressional Institute has organized a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation. More than 650,000 high school students have participated. This competition is an opportunity for each Congressional District to showcase their artistic and creative young talent. The selected art pieces are displayed for an entire year in the United States Capitol, and the winners are invited to Washington, DC for an awards ceremony.

Students interested in submitting artwork or with questions concerning the competition may contact Congressman Garamendi’s Davis Office at (530) 753-5301 or click here to register.
