Dozens of Veterans Attend Congressman Garamendi’s Veterans Resources Fair in Dixon

November 15, 2011

DIXON, CA – On the day before Veterans Day, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, CA), a Member of the House Armed Services Committee, brought nearly a dozen service providers together at Dixon Unified High School to help give back to brave men and women in uniform who were willing to give all. Garamendi was joined by Dixon Mayor Jack Batchelor who welcomed veterans from throughout the region to his city.

Dozens of veterans and their families were in attendance, with veterans from World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, Iraq War, and Afghanistan War arriving to learn what services are available to them.

"You were willing to put everything on the line, and we’re a proud and free nation for it," Congressman Garamendi said. "It’s now our responsibility to make sure that back home, you have everything you need to find a job and live a happy, rewarding life."

"I want to thank Congressman Garamendi for putting on this event for our veterans. They’ve made sacrifices in their lives to protect our freedom, and they were all willing to make the ultimate sacrifice," Mayor Batchelor said. "It’s important have events like this to provide those coming back to our community who need help to have face-to-face time with those providing services."

Service providers on hand offered guidance on:

  • Career training;
  • Caregiver compensation, including for family members;
  • Food and power assistance;
  • Housing benefits;
  • Education services, including the Post 9/11 GI Bill, vocational rehabilitation, and non-resident college fee waivers;
