Congressman John Garamendi Applauds Department of Labor’s Grant of $4 million for Additional Funding for Fire Cleanup and Recovery

January 5, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC-Today, Congressman Garamendi thanked the Department of Labor for providing $4 million of additional recovery assistance to continue cleanup and recovery efforts in the wake of the 2015 fires that affected Northern California.

“My district was hit hard by the last September’s wildfires, and the effects last long after the blazes are extinguished,” said Congressman Garamendi. “People who have lost their homes and businesses often need continued help to get back on their feet. I’m very pleased that the Department of Labor has provided $4 million in continued funding to help people who were displaced by wildfires get back to work. This additional grant will make a big difference to the people who need it most.”

To date, the Department of Labor has awarded $8 million to provide disaster relief employment for victims of the Valley and Butte Fires as part of a National Dislocated Worker Grant.
