Congressman John Garamendi’s Statement on Veterans Day

November 11, 2009

WALNUT CREEK – Congressman John Garamendi, (D-Walnut Creek, California), today issued the following statement in honor of Veterans Day:

"Veterans Day is a solemn yet celebratory day in America. We remember the brave men and women who sacrificed everything to secure our freedom, and we honor the millions of veterans in America who risked their lives to keep us safe. It is our duty as Americans to make sure that all current and former military personnel are treated with respect and have access to all the services they require to live a fulfilling life. To everyone who has ever served this great country and to all the military families whose sacrifice all too frequently goes unnoticed, thank you for all you’ve done and happy Veterans Day."

California’s 10th Congressional District is home to Travis Air Force Base, which has the 60th Air Mobility Wing, the largest air mobility organization in the Air Force, and the 349th Air Mobility Wing (Reserve), the largest associate wing in the United States Air Force Reserve.

Congressman Garamendi’s first vote as a Congressman was for a resolution honoring female veterans and military personnel.
