Congressman Garamendi’s Statement on WRDA

December 8, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC- Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, Davis, Yuba City), who represents over 200 miles of the Sacramento River and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta in the 3rd Congressional District, released the following statement on the passage of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA):

“As a member of the Subcommittee on Water Resources and the Environment, I ensured that this legislation will keep on track four major flood safety projects that are critical to the Third District: the Hamilton City Project, The Feather River West Levee, the West Sacramento Project, American River Common Features, and the Cache Creek Settling Basin. It also fully incorporates a bill I authored, H.R.3692, to provide $415 million for environmental restoration within the Lake Tahoe Basin. Of national importance, WRDA provides $170 million in badly needed aid for the drinking water crisis in Flint, Michigan.”

“This bill also provides $558 million for long-term water projects to address the California drought, with explicit saving clauses requiring all actions to be consistent with state laws and existing environmental laws, including the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act, and biological opinions.”
