Congressman Garamendi Hires Chief Master Sergeant John Evalle as New Veterans Liaison

October 27, 2014

FAIRFIELD, CA – Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, CA) is happy to announce that he has hired Chief Master Sergeant John Evalle as his office’s new Veterans Liaison. Chief Evalle retired from the Air Force last month after serving our nation for 30 years. Evalle’s career culminated as the Command Chief Master Sergeant of the 60th Air Mobility Wing at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield.

“My office has made veterans casework a major priority. We’ve secured more than $3.5 million in earned benefits for veterans who faced bureaucratic hurdles,” Congressman Garamendi explained. “This success has created a problem that’s good to have: word has spread that we are effective and veterans in the 3rd District are coming to us in droves for help. It became clear that we needed to add a new staff member to expand our capabilities with veterans casework, and Chief Master Sergeant Evalle is the perfect man for the job.”

“I am excited to start this next chapter of my life, and I’m thrilled that I’ve been given this opportunity to continue to serve my country and my fellow service members in a different capacity,” Chief Evalle said. “I take this new responsibility very seriously, and I’m honored by the confidence the Congressman has shown me.”

Evalle added, “I know I’m one of the lucky ones. I’ve retired from the Air Force in good health and good spirits, and I have a loving and supportive family at home. But I’ve witnessed firsthand the toll of war, and I know good servicemembers who never made it home in one piece, mentally or physically. There are a lot of veterans suffering out there, and I appreciate Congressman Garamendi’s leadership in ensuring that they won’t be forgotten in the 3rd District.”

“Chief Evalle understands the needs of servicemembers and the Air Force, particularly Travis Air Force Base,” Garamendi continued. “He will continue his decades of public service helping 3rd District veterans and military families with casework, and I know that he will be an important and trusted advisor on military affairs legislation as well. He’s an incredibly important addition to our team.”

Evalle joined the Air Force in 1984 directly out of high school and originally served as a Civil Engineering Technician performing Drafting, Surveying, Construction Inspection, and Contract Management. He has served in Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia (during Desert Shield/Desert Storm), South Korea, Guam, Italy, and Qatar.

Evalle will work in partnership with Brandon Thomson, the office’s Deputy District Director. They are both based out of the Fairfield District Office but will spend some time at the Davis and Yuba City district offices too. Constituents who are having difficulties with the Veterans Administration or any other federal agency are encouraged to call Congressman Garamendi’s Fairfield District Office at 707-438-1822.
