Close to 200 Constituents Attend Congressman Garamendi’s Davis District Office Open House

January 25, 2013

DAVIS, CA – Earlier this month, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, CA) opened the doors to his new Yuba City District Office to the public for the first time. Yesterday was Davis’ turn, with almost 200 constituents arriving to greet the Congressman, his wife Patti, and the entire district staff.

“I represented this community as a State Senator in the 1980s, and it’s an honor to once again serve you. My title is ‘Representative’, and I take that responsibility very seriously,” Congressman Garamendi told attendees. “To make sure I’m doing all I can to faithfully represent you, I need all of you to let me and my staff know when an issue arises that we can help with. Whether that means advocating for a policy or helping you get a fair shake from a federal agency, we’re here to serve.”

Congressman Garamendi recently received his subcommittee assignments, where he will have jurisdiction over many of the most pressing transportation, water, and military issues facing Northern California.

Congressman Garamendi’s constituent casework team was on hand at the event to open new cases for area constituents.

“Our team understands that our job first and foremost is service,” said Karen Tedford, Congressman Garamendi’s District Director and Constituent Casework Manager. “It’s easy for someone who doesn’t know the lay of the land to get lost trying to resolve a problem with a federal agency. Whether it’s at the VA, Social Security, immigration, or any number of other federal agencies, our office knows who to call and what to say. We do what we can to break through bureaucratic gridlock when it harms our constituents.”

Deputy District Director Elly Fairclough said, “I have worked with the residents of Yolo County for the past decade under Congressman Mike Thompson. I look forward to now working with Congressman John Garamendi and to serving the residents of the 3rd Congressional District.”

The event also served as a good opportunity to recruit new interns. The office is launching a Civic Internship Program modeled after the White House’s internship program which emphasizes real career building work, responsibility, and skills training.

“UC Davis is a world class university, and the 3rd District is also home to some fantastic community colleges. We will use our office to help talented area students blossom and gain solid career experience,” said Andrew Kim, Congressman Garamendi’s Special Projects Director and Internship Coordinator. “All area students are encouraged to visit our website at garamendi.house.gov and apply. If your passion is research, writing, community outreach, or public service, we want to hear from you.”

Congressman Garamendi represents California’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes all or portions of Colusa, Glenn, Lake, Sacramento, Solano, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba counties.
