Garamendi Met with President Biden in the Oval Office Last Month to Discuss Infrastructure Priorities

WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, applauded President Biden’s introduction of his AmericanJobs Plan to rebuild our nation’s crumbling transportation and infrastructure systems and spur significant economic growth for our country.

Garamendi met with President Biden, Vice President Harris, Secretary of Transportation Buttigieg, and a select bipartisan group of lawmakers in the Oval Office last month to discuss infrastructure priorities. At the meeting, Garamendi led a discussion on the need to advance “Buy American” policies that will help rebuild and modernize our nation’s infrastructure with American materials and workers. President Biden’s American Jobs plan includes many of initiatives that Congressman Garamendi has prioritized through his Make it in America agenda in Congress.

“President Biden unveiled the boldest infrastructure and jobs plan in a generation,” Garamendi said. “His American Jobs Plan will rebuild our economy, create good-paying middle-class jobs, and build our nation’s transportation and infrastructure sectors back better than before. I am pleased that the President’s plan supports ‘Buy American’ policies that will ensure our infrastructure investments use American materials and workers to create thousands of new good-paying middle-class jobs. This President’s plan also makes bold investments in rural broadband to close the digital divide, focuses on building infrastructure that is more resilient to the impacts of climate change, and helps grow the economy and reduce the federal deficit over time.

“I’m thrilled that President Biden’s plan supports ‘Buy American,’ ‘Make it in America’ and several other priorities that I shared with him at a recent meeting in the Oval Office alongside Vice President Harris, Secretary Buttigieg, and a small bipartisan group of lawmakers,” Garamendi continued.

“As a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I look forward to working closely with President Biden and the White House to help enact this critically important plan into law to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, grow the middle-class, and modernize our transportation systems with new state-of-the-art facilities and technologies that make our nation more resilient to climate change,” Garamendi concluded.
