Rep. Garamendi Applauds Jenny Moffitt’s Appointment to Key Role at U.S. Department of Agriculture

April 28, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) applauded the appointment of Jenny Lester Moffitt as Undersecretary of Marketing and Regulatory Programs (MRP) for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Jenny is one of Congressman Garamendi's constituents who has served the State of California throughout her career and will now bring her extensive experience in agriculture to the Biden Administration. Garamendi wrote to President Biden and Vice President Harris on February 25 to advocate for Jenny's appointment to a key role at USDA.

"Jenny's leadership and commitment to climate-smart agriculture, water quality, animal and plant health, specialty crop programs, marketing, trade, and building resilient and equitable food systems will bring invaluable experience to USDA," Garamendi said. "In her previous work as Under Secretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), Jenny helped invest nearly $1 billion into climate conscious agriculture programs and bolstered the role that agriculture plays in combating climate change. Notably, Jenny has ensured that farmers and ranchers have been part of the solution to address climate change, and she has built strong partnerships between multiple agencies, organizations, and stakeholder groups to build successful voluntary programs that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build soil health.

"Jenny works incredibly hard to find innovative solutions to challenging issues, and I am thrilled that she has been selected to serve as Undersecretary of Marketing and Regulatory Programs (MRP) at USDA," Garamendi concluded.
