Readiness Chairman Garamendi’s Statement on Death of U.S.S. Roosevelt Sailor
Sacramento, CA—Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA), Chairman of the Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, issued the below statement after it was announced that a sailor aboard the U.S.S. Roosevelt died due to complications with COVID-19:
“The death of a sailor aboard the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt and the infection of 585 others is tragic and preventable. It’s appalling that Captain Crozier’s request for immediate assistance was not taken seriously by former Acting Secretary Modly, and it’s abhorrent that Crozier lost his post over it. Captain Crozier should be reinstated and the sailors aboard the U.S.S. Roosevelt should receive the strongest care and support available,” Garamendi said.
