Readiness Chairman Garamendi Issues Response to Air Force Inspector General’s Report on Turnberry and Prestwick
Washington, DC—Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA), Chairman of the Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, released the following statement in response to the Office of Inspector General of the Air Force’s report on the use of the Prestwick Airport and Trump Turnberry:
“The IG report confirms that the Air Force spent federal funds at Trump Turnberry. While it does not fault any personnel and confirms that use of Turnberry was in line with standard operating procedure, it ignores a blatant violation of the United States Constitution. Use of any federal or state money at the President’s personal businesses is a violation of the Article II Emoluments Clause. President Trump benefits from any income earned at his properties throughout the world, including Turnberry. There still is no Department of Defense policy directing the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps to obey the Constitution and prevent the expenditure of any money at Trump properties,” Garamendi said.
“As Chairman of the Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, I will do everything in my power to ensure the necessary steps are taken by the service branches to obey the Constitution,” Garamendi concluded.
