Garamendi’s Statement on the State of the Union

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) issued the following statement after attending President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address:

“Tonight, President Biden spoke directly to the American people and outlined the terrific progress we’ve made in the two years of his Presidency, and eloquently described his agenda for the future,” Garamendi said.

“In just two years, Joe Biden has created 12 million jobs, more than any other President has created in four. More Americans have healthcare than ever before, manufacturing has rebounded at the fastest rate in 40 years, GDP soared by 2.9%, inflation has cooled for six straight months, we’ve seen a record decrease in the deficit, and we’ve had the strongest two years of small business applications in U.S. history,” Garamendi continued.

“This was all achieved thanks to strong Democratic policies, like the Inflation Reduction Act, the Infrastructure and Jobs Act, and the American Rescue Plan. Despite facing the narrowest Congressional majorities in 100 years, and zero Republican support in these efforts, President Biden and Congressional Democrats delivered for the American people,” Garamendi continued.

“We are just getting started. Tonight you saw a President that will never take his foot off the pedal. He and Congressional Democrats are already at work finishing the job we started. We will protect and expand Social Security and Medicare—even as some Congressional Republicans try to cut it—decrease the deficit and cut taxes for the middle class by finally making big corporations like Amazon pay their fair share in taxes. We will work every day to continue to grow the economy,” Garamendi continued.

“America’s story is one of resilience and progress. We’ve seen that the last two years, and I am more determined than ever to continue delivering positive results for my constituents and all Americans,” Garamendi concluded.
