Garamendi, Thompson Present Check to Winters for Transportation Improvements

$2 Million for Improvements to SR128/I-505 Interchange
WINTERS, CA—Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA08) and Congressman Mike Thompson (D-CA04) presented a $2,000,000 check to the City of Winters to build safer pedestrian and bicycle crossings and address accessibility issues for underserved communities along the State Route 128/I-505 interchange. The funding was made possible through a government funding package for Fiscal Year 2023.
"I was pleased to work with Congressman Thompson and secure this critically important funding for the City of Winters. These funds will ensure the State Route 128/I-505 interchange in Winters is safe and accessible for all travelers and communities. It will also cut down on pollution and make the air we breathe safer and cleaner for all. Congressman Thompson and I are looking forward to seeing all the good that will come from this new federal support," Garamendi said.
"Providing a safer crossing for pedestrians and bicyclists in Winters across I-505 will create a safer roadway for all modes of transportation," said Thompson. "Proud to work with Rep. John Garamendi to provide a $2 million check we secured in the government funding bill for the State Route 128/I-505 Overcrossing and Russell Boulevard Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvement Project. This funding will help connect the El Rio Villa community with Winters and address accessibility for underserved communities."
The project will modify the SR128/I-505 interchange ramps to provide safer crossings to pedestrian and bicyclists; widen the overcrossing to construct 10-feet standard outside shoulders on both sides of the structure and an 8-feet-wide Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalk on the southside; replace the existing bridge barrier rail to meet current standards; and construct a bike/pedestrian connection from the overcrossing to the El Rio Villa community.
The funding will also provide safer crossings to pedestrians and bicyclists; address social inequities and accessibility for disadvantaged communities; create a safer roadway for all modes of transportation; and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
