Garamendi Thanks Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and President Biden for Infrastructure Rollout
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman John Garamendi, a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, thanked Secretary Buttigieg for the Department of Transportation’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 during a full Committee hearing on “Oversight of the Department of Transportation’s Policies and Programs.”
The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded nationally competitive federal grant funds to two projects in Garamendi’s district under the Federal Transit Administration’s Buses and Bus Facilities (Competitive Grant) Program.
“As one of 5 cosponsors of the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, I thank Secretary Buttigieg for the Biden-Harris Administration and the Department of Transportation’s ongoing work to fully implement this law, making a generational investment to modernize our nation’s transportation systems,” said Garamendi.
California’s 8th Congressional district received two Federal Transit Administration grants from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act: $12,016,400 for the City of Fairfield (fiscal year 2022) and $12,458,500 for SolTrans (fiscal year 2023) to upgrade and electrify their municipal busing fleets. In addition to improving service with newer, cleaner, safer buses made in the United States for Fairfield, Suisun, and Solano County residents, this federal grant funding is critical as California’s Air Resources Board requires all public transit agencies to transition to zero-emission buses by 2040.
