Garamendi Releases Statement on Ceasefire Negotiations and Hostage Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative John Garamendi (D-CA08) issued the following statement on negotiations in Qatar coordinated by American officials for a ceasefire in Gaza in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages:

“I support negotiations aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages, as well as the expedited delivery of humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza.

“I share in the enormous concern, empathy, and grief in California’s 8th District and around the world about the horrific loss of life in this conflict. While daily pauses have been a positive first step, additional steps to meet the critical need for humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza are crucial. These critical negotiations bring us closer to securing the release of Israeli hostages and defeating Hamas. Importantly, these discussions advance efforts to build a stable ceasefire solution to end the terrible loss of life the region has suffered.

“As ceasefire negotiations continue, we must not lose sight of our objective to achieve long-lasting peace in the region for both Israelis and Palestinians to live with dignity, safety, and security.”
