Garamendi Reappointed to Transportation & Infrastructure Committee for the 118th Congress
WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) released the following statement after being reappointed to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for the 118th Congress:
“I’m honored to serve the people of Contra Costa and Solano counties as a senior member of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee in the 118th Congress,” Garamendi said. “I’ve served on this committee since my first day in Congress, and that experience culminated with the enactment of the Infrastructure and Jobs Act into law in 2021. I was proud to play a pivotal role in crafting this legislation with the White House and my colleagues in Congress. It is a once-in-a-generation investment into modernizing our crumbling infrastructure, investing in climate resilience, and producing millions of new good-paying jobs.
“Now that this legislation has become law, I will use my position on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to ensure it is properly implemented and its benefits are received by the Solano and Contra Costa communities,” Garamendi continued. “We are already seeing dividends being paid from this law, with a recently announced $28 million grant coming to Contra Costa County to prevent roadway deaths and injuries. This is just the start of the efforts I will undertake to support our communities through my role on this committee.”
In addition to being appointed to the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, Garamendi was appointed to four transportation subcommittees. This includes the subcommittees on:
- Water Resources and Environment
- Highways and Transit
- Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation
- Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management
“I’m pleased to continue serving in a senior role on these critically important subcommittees,” Garamendi continued. “I will use my continued service on the Costa Guard and Maritime Subcommittee to revitalize areas like Mare Island and ensure every port in California’s 8th Congressional District has the federal support it needs. I’ll use my position on the Water Resources and Development and Highway subcommittees to ensure we have the proper public infrastructure, water storage, and flood protection to withstand any contingency. And I’ll use my role on the Economic Development Subcommittee to ensure agencies like FEMA provide the necessary care and support our communities need when recovering from disasters,” Garamendi continued.
“I am excited to be reappointed to these key roles, and I am already hard at work in these capacities for our community,” Garamendi concluded.
