Garamendi Presents $1 Million Check at Kennedy High School in Richmond
Garamendi Secured the Funds in a Federal Appropriations Bill to Create Construction Career Technical Education Apprenticeship Program at Kennedy High
RICHMOND, CA—Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Richmond), presented a $1 million check to support the Career Technical Education Apprenticeship Program at Kennedy High School in Richmond. Garamendi secured the funding through the Fiscal Year 2023 government funding bill that was signed into law last year.
“I’m a long-time advocate of apprenticeship programs that teach young people critically important vocational skills that they can use for rewarding careers in the building trades and beyond,” Garamendi said. “This funding will support the Construction Trades Workforce Initiative (CTWI)—the nonprofit partner of local Building Trades Councils in the Northern/East Bay Area Region.
“Specifically, these funds will be used to create a new Multi-Craft Core Curriculum Apprenticeship Readiness Program to prepare residents to work in skilled building trades and place them directly with high-wage jobs. Participants in this program would graduate with industry-standard certifications and requirements including MC3 certification, OSHA 10, and First Aid training. This program will uplift our communities and fulfill a critical need for skilled building labor in a region with the lowest housing availability,” Garamendi continued.
“I was pleased to secure this funding through my work in Congress, and I look forward to seeing all the good it does for the community,” Garamendi concluded.
Garamendi’s letter of support for the project can be viewed here.
