Garamendi Issues Statement on Hamas’s Attack on Israel

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) issued the following statement on the recent attack by Hamas on Israel:

“As the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, I strongly condemn the attack by Hamas on Israel. I join the Israeli people in mourning the over 700 lives lost and pray for the more than 2,300 wounded in this unprecedented attack over the weekend. We now know that at least 11 American citizens were among those killed and I, along with the rest of the country, am deeply appalled and saddened. My thoughts, too, are with the Palestinian civilians in Gaza who are now caught in the crossfire and face increased violence.

“The United States remains committed to providing appropriate support to Israel to end the cycle of violence and seek stability in the region. That is why I am an original cosponsor of a bipartisan resolution that condemns Hamas’s attack on Israel and its hostage-taking of Israeli civilians and reaffirms Congress’s support for Israel’s security, its right to self-defense, and US security assistance to Israel. I look forward to its swift passage in the House.

“As the region faces unrest, the United States must stand as a strong and united front. The House of Representatives remains without a Speaker and faces an extreme MAGA contingent that is dedicated to their own agenda above the interests of the American people. I urge my Republican colleagues to work across the aisle so that we can once again get back to work and demonstrate American leadership on the global stage.”
