Garamendi Hosts Productive District Work Day in Contra Costa County

January 23, 2024

Contra Costa County, CA—Yesterday, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) hosted a work day in Contra Costa County to discuss reproductive health care, education, and other topics relevant to California’s 8th District.

Garamendi started his day at a Planned Parenthood Health Center in Richmond to discuss the critical community services they provide. Garamendi then visited a classroom at George Miller III, a Head Start Center, and hosted a roundtable discussion at the Rosie the Riveter Trust, the official nonprofit partner of Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond. He ended his day with visits to Brenntag Pacific to discuss his Ocean Shipping Reform Act and Kaiser Permanente School of Allied Health Sciences to discuss health sciences training and education.

Planned Parenthood:

“Planned Parenthood provides a wide range of health care services, including cancer screenings, primary care, and regular wellness check-ups. Since the Supreme Court's extremist conservative majority cruelly overturned Roe v. Wade, the Republican Party has inflicted a horrific agenda across the nation as they seek to criminalize women's health decisions. I thank providers at Planned Parenthood and reaffirm my commitment to supporting individual choice in personal health care decisions,” said Garamendi.

George Miller III:

“I thank George Miller III for welcoming me into their classroom. Head Start is critically important in giving children the opportunity to thrive in school, which is why I have been a long-time champion of the program in Congress. Head Start provides young learners ages zero to five with a wide range of educational resources, and we know students who have access to Head Start do better. I’m committed to ensuring that our communities have strong public education options, and Head Start is an invaluable component of this,” said Garamendi.

Rosie the Riveter Trust:

“It was a pleasure to visit the Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond. This site preserves the stories of those who sacrificed during World War II and honors the unprecedented social services delivered by Richmond: prepaid health insurance, 24-hour childcare, and the most extensive federal housing program in the United States. I look forward to partnering with modern-day ‘Rosies’ to continue this legacy,” said Garamendi.

Brenntag Pacific Chemical Plant:

“I am grateful to the Brenntag Pacific Chemical Plant for hosting me at their site in Richmond to discuss my Ocean Shipping Reform Act, which provides the Federal Maritime Commission with the necessary tools to support American exporters and protect consumers,” said Garamendi.

Kaiser Permanente School of Allied Health Sciences:

“I toured the Kaiser Permanente School of Allied Health Sciences facility and learned about the various lines of study offered. I am proud of the work they do to prepare students for the workforce and ensure that they are well-trained to pursue their careers in health care,” said Garamendi.
