Garamendi Appointed to Help Negotiate Final National Defense Authorization Act
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman John Garamendi, top Democrat on the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, issued the following statement upon being named a Conferee to the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA):
“I’m pleased to once again serve as a member of the Conference Committee to the National Defense Authorization Act, which provides the authority and direction for all United States military activities. The Conference Committee gives senior members of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees the opportunity to reach a final compromise bill to the full Congress and, ultimately, to the President’s desk.
“This $886 billion bill does some things we all agree on, like giving our men and women in uniform a 5.2% pay raise—the largest in over two decades. But we still have crucial issues to resolve. MAGA Republicans continue to push their extreme agenda at the expense of our national security, including attacks on reproductive rights and access to health care for women and LGBTQ+ servicemembers. I look forward to working with House Democratic Leader Jeffries and my House and Senate colleagues to ensure the final defense bill supports military families.
“I will also do my part to ensure that the missions at Travis Air Force Base are fully supported in the final version that reaches the President’s desk.”
