Garamendi Announces Winners of Congressional High School Art Competition

Sacramento, CA – Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) announced the winners of this year's Congressional High School Art Competition in the 3rd District. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year's art competition wad conducted virtually.
The grand prize winner was Amelia Villagomez of Marysville Charter Academy for the Arts with her piece, "Amelia in Quarantine." Amelia's work will be displayed at the U.S. Capitol for a year in a gallery featuring winners from Congressional districts throughout the country.
"Congratulations to Amelia Villagomez for winning this year's competition. She has a rare gift, and I hope she continues to follow her dreams," Congressman Garamendi said. "The competition was stiff this year, and there were a lot of impressive pieces. I also want to congratulate the other artists we highlighted this year with special merit, including Jaclyn Zucco of Marysville Charter Academy for the Arts and Amanda Berry of Davis Senior High School."
"This was the first time the Congressional High School Art Competition was conducted virtually, and I am inspired and amazed by how well these students expressed the complex set of emotions and feelings we are all experiencing as our nation grapples with several historic crises. I'm honored to celebrate the incredible talent throughout our communities and I thank every student and art teacher throughout our district for sharing their work with us and making this event possible," Garamendi concluded.
