June 22, 2018

Congressman Garamendi will join over 30 Democratic Members to visit immigration facilities and better understand the family separation crisis created by President Trump

WASHINGTON, DC- Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, Davis, Yuba City), a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, announced that he will be joining over thirty Democrats from the House of Representatives to tour detention facilities near McAllen, Texas on Saturday, June 23. The tour is being hosted by Congressmembers Filamon Vela (D-TX) and Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX).

"President Trump needlessly created a crisis with his cruel, inhumane family separations, and I am joining my fellow Democrats to better understand the consequences of his so-called ‘zero tolerance' policy," said Garamendi. "I will do everything in my power to see to it that these families are reunited, and that none of the parents whose children Trump took away have to go to bed wondering if they'll ever see their children again."

Members will be visiting the McAllen Border Patrol Station, the Centralized Processing Station, and the Port Isabel ICE Detention Center. Mr. Garamendi will be available for interviews by telephone.
