Congressman Garamendi’s Statement on President Trump’s Firing of Attorney General Sessions

November 7, 2018
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC- Today, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, Davis, Yuba City), a Senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement regarding Trump’s firing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the subsequent appointment of Matthew Whitaker as Acting Attorney General:

“I am very alarmed at President Trump’s decision to fire Attorney General Sessions and appoint Mathew Whitaker as Acting Attorney General. Mr. Whitaker is an outspoken opponent of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, and has even referred to the probe as a ‘lynch mob.’”

“The Mueller investigation must be allowed to proceed unimpeded. Any restriction on it could constitute obstruction of justice.”
